DC Area Community of Communities &
Congress Heights House proudly present the:
May Prayer and Share Gathering
Monday, May 23, 7:30-9:00 PM
@ Congress Heights House
3214 11th Place SE
Washington, DC 20032
Topic: Environment and Community
What is your community doing (or thinking about doing) to “go green”?
How can we raise awareness of the environment as a moral issue in our church communities?
What environmental problems are impacting our neighborhoods?
How do issues of race and class intersect with environmental concerns?
DIRECTIONS TO CONGRESS HEIGHTS HOUSE:
Take Metro’s Green Line in the direction of Branch Avenue, and get off at Congress Heights. Follow the sign for Alabama Avenue. When you get up to ground level, turn to face and street and then turn left to walk west on Alabama Avenue. You will cross 13th and 12th Streets, then turn left on 11th Place. Our house is the second one on th left, with the DC flag hanging from the porch. For assistance call Nathan at 301-758-5892.
You’re welcome to come to Cornerstone on Thursday March 10th for our Prayer and Share gathering. We’ll be discussing “Commitment and Belonging” together–how do we engage in healthy community when so many of our community experiences are short-lived? Is it possible to be fully invested in a community without commitments? Do they need to be formal? What does commitment even mean in a generation and a city fraught with transience? What does it mean to live in sustainable community, whether or not we share housing with others?
I personally think this is one of the most significant issues when it comes to thinking about the sustainability of community–how long can we live together in community?
I hope you’ll come to 4800 Arkansas Ave NW at 7:30 on Thursday the 10th.
Thursday’s are Cornerstone’s guest dinner–if you’d like to attend dinner at 6:00, please let me know so we can plan for guests (brianjgorman@gmail.com)

Join us on May 11th for our May prayer, share, and discussion. The topic is “Community and Art” and is being held at the Bread House. Should be a great time of creating and discussing something vital to our communities. Email sjb2687 at gmail.com for more info and directions. Starts at 7:30 pm.
I’m excited to invite you all to the first instance of our new format of our monthly prayer and share gatherings! We’re meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26th at 7:30 at Casa Chirilagua- 3913 Elbert Ave, Alexandria, VA 22305. The closest metro is Pentagon City, though you’ll need a ride from there. When I send the reminder email in a couple weeks, I’ll give contact info for rides.
We’ll be discussing Money and Relational Giving, how we share and use our money within our specific communities/lives and how we can do well to learn how to share it amongst others. All are welcome! I look forward to a meaningful discussion with you all.
Peace and good will at the beginning of Advent!
Due to some schedule conflicts the next Prayer and Share meeting will be moved to the West Hyattsville House, on Monday the 14th at 7:30 pm. The address is 5608 31st Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20782, and is just a 5 minute walk from the West Hyattsville Metro on the Green Line. They can pick you up if necessary- email Amy at amybcaruso@gmail.com.
I look forward to putting some feet on our brainstorming from last time. Hope to see just as many of you there!

Hey Y’all!
Get excited for our November gathering! Kate and Natalia have generously offered to host this month. We’ll be meeting on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:30. Note this is a different day of the week than the last couple months. Their address is: 1818 Minnesota Ave SE, Washington D.C. The Potomac Ave (blue/orange) and Anacostia (green) stops are the closest on the Metro. If you’ll need a ride, you can email Kate (I’ll send her info out in the reminder email a couple days ahead of time).
A couple things to please think about over the next couple weeks: part of our gathering this time will be to have a time for some brainstorming and visioning for DC Area Community of Communities and how we want to use/build on what we’ve done so far. I’ll send out some questions before the next meeting to help encourage you in your thinking, but please take some time to think about how you think of C of C.
Also, I’m currently trying to update our website (dc.newmonastics.org) and would appreciate some feedback. I’ve added a welcome page and have updated the communities page. Feel free to bring some ideas about the website either to the gathering or email me directly.
Lastly, it’d be great to see some new faces out at this meeting as we brainstorm for the year ahead. Even if you’ve never come before or aren’t living in a community, you’re very welcome to attend! We’d love to see you there.
